After almost 20 years auditing high-risk food businesses and seeing the same struggles and issues repeat year after year.

I wanted to help!

So in 2021, The Food Safety Coach was born.

Even the most experienced food service managers became stressed, frustrated, lacked confidence and feared each regulatory food safety audit and it wasn’t right.

Most of them just needed the gentle guidance and direction that they’d never been shown before, which put them on the right track and helped them feel supported.

And this is what I am now able to do in my business, The Food Safety Coach.

I help and empower food businesses who serve food to vulnerable people to focus on what they do best and not have the constant worry and overwhelm which often comes with navigating complex food safety compliance standards.

It has been extremely rewarding to see not only the improvement in food safety compliance, but also the ease at which my clients now manage their food safety systems and, in the process, have also improved operational efficiencies and staff morale. 

Why safe, high-quality food service to vulnerable people matters to me

At the very core of this business is my deep care and understanding of people who are vulnerable and susceptible to inadequate food service and who aren’t necessarily capable of speaking up and expressing their needs when it comes to their food requirements. From a very young age, I was exposed to a parent living with a family illness and later in life, caring for other family members, preparing meals and being their advocate and voice.

Because supporting them means they are able to focus on their primary mission of caring for vulnerable people!

After 20 years of conducting regulatory food safety audits and working ‘in kitchens’ alongside food service managers to improve their food safety compliance, I have seen and heard it all! And over those years, I’ve gained a true appreciation for what challenges they are confronted with on a daily basis.

I believe food service teams are the backbone of their businesses and organisations

Food is essential and it has even greater meaning to vulnerable people in care. A great meal can lighten up a person’s day, a memory, a comforting feeling and bring joy.

Food service teams hold the key!

They are the teams working hard behind-the-scenes to make sure food is ‘on the table’ for their clients and ensuring consistent, safe, quality and nutritious meals are served up each and every day.

To me, they are the underdogs of their organisations! The ones working tirelessly, and sometimes thanklessly, and who care deeply for their clients and staff to make sure the job is done, and I’m always there to cheer on and support the underdog!

Food safety standards can be a difficult beast to navigate, and many businesses, especially regional and small to medium sites don’t have the luxury of having food safety experts onsite to do the worrying, risk assessments and food safety program management and reviews for them. It’s all on them!

My goal is to make food safety compliance as simple and stress free as possible!
